Jab We Met Music Review

Movie: Jab We Met
Music Director: Pritam
Ratings: ****

Who says the music of a romantic film can not give an additional feel to the movie. Here we have a classic example after DDLJ (not the only one though) where the music is as romantic as the film.

The Beauty of the film's music is the innocence in the songs. Use of folk instruments in the song "Yeh Ishq hai" gives it a unique identity and is a very melodious song(like all others in the movie) to hear.
Another awesome track in the movie is the "Aao Milon chale"- its almost like you dream of spending a lifetime in love, the whole journey being of just 5.24 mins (song duration).
But my pick is Mohit Chauhan's "Tum se Hi", especially for the -'Ah ah a a a ah... ah ah a a a ah...', i would always repeatedly listen to the song for this interlude in the beginning and the end. Progression, mixing of the song is next to perfection that only few great musicians have been able to achieve. A cute song!
Then the most popular dance number of its year "Mauja hi Mauja" where it seems the song is made only for Mika- he's sung it with a lot of vigour and passion, that when others sing this song on reality shows, they only end up losing votes. Another dance track "Nagada Nagada" also creates a peppy mood, though it could have been better.
However, the little promoted Ghazal sung by Rashid Khan "Aaoge jab tum saajana" is my second favourite along with "Yeh ishq", primarily for the depth in the composition and its rare to find such songs in todays films.

Overall, a listen anytime, feel good everytime album. Songs gel well with the script and i remember it as the only movie with love story as it's central theme after "Kuch Kuch Hota Hai" that has managed to stay afresh in the minds of the audiences... Wait.. did i just go too overboard in praising Imtiaz Ali?

Dostana Music Review

Music Director: Vishal-Shekhar
Rating: ****

I remember, the day was 16th November the first sunday after the film was released and i had gone to see the movie on the that night. Due to some reasons peculiar to that date, i couldnt enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the music and the film. So initially i rugged it off as an average score. But hey, its was actually different and not so as i thought. The more you listen to the songs, the more you feel like listening to them again. Vishal -Shekhar duo has given the complete album a unique identity, where u can make out that every song comes from the same album but still all of them are so different from each other.

You are first greeted by the very peppy number, a lovely track, "Shut up and Bounce"; listen to it carefully and dont miss the bass in the background. If you dont get it, then my headphones are just simply great. Then there is ofcourse, the "Desi Girl" which has used Indian beats/rhythms, shehnai and programmed it to sound like a perfect bollywood number.

But my favourite is "Jaane Kyun... i 'll be alright", may be i love the song for its lyrics like....'but wen you smile for me, the world seems alright... yeh meri zindagi pal me hi khil jaaye jaane kyun..' (and ya it can be sung with only a piano and few of ur friends clapping the beats). Its a song of a lifetime.

Also the cream of the album is the "Maa da laadla bigad gaya", a typical punjabi song, sung by a great fresh voice. However, the album is incomplete without its two soft songs, one romantic and another sad. "Kis taraf hai aasman" brings out the innocence of feelings you may have for that someone special. And beauty of "Kuch Kum roshan hai roshni" is again the lyrics and the melody of the song. The song elaborates while the humming speaks for itself. Finally, the laadla mix adds a slight spice to the complete pack.

I feel sad that it took me so long and constant listening to understand the album Dostana. The music of the movie is a precious journey not to be missed. Bravo Vishal Shekhar... i always was a fan of ur music, but this time u gave us something fresh and new to cherish for a long time..!

Listen to the songs well. You will adore all of them. Highly recommended by me!

Delhi 6 Music Review

The soundtrack of Delhi 6 is a refreshing experience altogether. Once again the unconventional comes from the magician Rahman.Leading the board is the now very famous "Massakali" (my caller tune these days) which is a completely unique number having good lyrics as well. Listening to "Rehna tu" is a mesmerising experience, nice one to be completely lost thinking about someone special. The theme song of the movie "Yeh Delhi hai mere yaar" is one of the few bollywood songs that has used the real potential of metal rock, signifies the spirit of our capital. There are two other unique songs- a sweet "Dil gira dafatan" and a wonderful rap "Hey kala Bandar". Whats interesting is that there is a completely classical song, "Bhor Bhayi"; those who know atleast little about various raagas will definitely appreciate the beauty of the song. My favourite after massakali is the awesome "Genda Phool", where the traditional beats suddenly marry bass and R n B midway and add to it exciting lyrics of the song.... Woah! Apart from these wonderful numbers, there are a couple of religious songs, "Arziyan" and an "Aarti". The quawalli Arziyan reminds one of Khwaja mere khwaja from Jodha Akbar, but still very different, its a song of hope. "Noor" a dialouge sung by Abhishek Bachchan doesnt make a big contribution but girls might still love it.In all, the music of Delhi 6 is not just a hit with delhites, but it really strikes a chord with the whole nation. Worth hai!!....
