I remember, the day was 16th November the first sunday after the film was released and i had gone to see the movie on the that night. Due to some reasons peculiar to that date, i couldnt enjoy and appreciate the beauty of the music and the film. So initially i rugged it off as an average score. But hey, its was actually different and not so as i thought. The more you listen to the songs, the more you feel like listening to them again. Vishal -Shekhar duo has given the complete album a unique identity, where u can make out that every song comes from the same album but still all of them are so different from each other.
You are first greeted by the very peppy number, a lovely track, "Shut up and Bounce"; listen to it carefully and dont miss the bass in the background. If you dont get it, then my headphones are just simply great. Then there is ofcourse, the "Desi Girl" which has used Indian beats/rhythms, shehnai and programmed it to sound like a perfect bollywood number.
But my favourite is "Jaane Kyun... i 'll be alright", may be i love the song for its lyrics like....'but wen you smile for me, the world seems alright... yeh meri zindagi pal me hi khil jaaye jaane kyun..' (and ya it can be sung with only a piano and few of ur friends clapping the beats). Its a song of a lifetime.
Also the cream of the album is the "Maa da laadla bigad gaya", a typical punjabi song, sung by a great fresh voice. However, the album is incomplete without its two soft songs, one romantic and another sad. "Kis taraf hai aasman" brings out the innocence of feelings you may have for that someone special. And beauty of "Kuch Kum roshan hai roshni" is again the lyrics and the melody of the song. The song elaborates while the humming speaks for itself. Finally, the laadla mix adds a slight spice to the complete pack.
I feel sad that it took me so long and constant listening to understand the album Dostana. The music of the movie is a precious journey not to be missed. Bravo Vishal Shekhar... i always was a fan of ur music, but this time u gave us something fresh and new to cherish for a long time..!
Listen to the songs well. You will adore all of them. Highly recommended by me!
